Barrow Veterinary Service is seeking our next team member! Could it be you?
Position: Equine Assistant/Technician
Job Requirements:
* Equine management experience is required. Veterinary experience is not, but special consideration will be given to the applicant who has both.
* Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
* Must have reliable transportation, and live close enough that the commute is not unrealistic.
* Must be self-motivated, able to work alone or in a group. Both will be required.
* Must be able to lift and move feed bags and hay bales, roughly 50# each.
About the Job:
Equine practice is not merely a job, but a lifestyle. Our core team members are truly that: a team, and we anticipate bringing aboard a person who is willing to work as hard as we do - but also enjoy the people and patients we work with as much as we do. We are more interested in finding the right fit than filling the position immediately.
Our office hours are 8am - 5pm Monday through Friday. Generally, support staff days begin around 7:30am and go until we are finished for the day. Some days that will be just after closing, and some days much longer, depending on scheduling, emergencies, and hospitalized cases. Each team member takes a weekday off and will rotate weekend shifts, which are generally split into morning and evening rotations. Not every person works every weekend.
General Duties:
* Maintain veterinary professionalism and client confidentiality at all times
* Feeding, cleaning stalls, and any treatments for hospitalized or rehabbing horses twice daily
* Participate in daily rounds and case discussion
* Stocking of meds & supplies on ambulatory trucks
* Assist veterinarians with restraint and procedures both in the field and in-clinic
* Assist with radiographs, ultrasound, or other diagnostics
* Collect and run in-house bloodwork (Abaxis) or prep outgoing labs
* Fecal Egg Counts (McMaster's or Imagyst)
* Inventory / Supply management
* Prepare and label prescription medications or supplies for dispensing/pickup
* Maintain cleanliness and working order of all equipment and of the facility itself
* Utilize cloud-based veterinary software, which also integrates our lab and imaging systems
* Assist clients during intake and discharge, or as requested on farm calls
* Work with students, interns, and preceptors during their rotations at BVS
* Other duties as assigned
Pay rate and benefits are based on experience and qualifications. We invite resumes to [email protected] (Attn: Practice Manager) or questions to 770-464-0890.
